Antifungal activity of Rhein isolated from Cassia fistula L. flower
A n t i f u n g a l a c t i v i t y o f r h e i n ( 1 , 8 dihydroxyanthraquinone3carboxylic acid) isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of Cassia fistula flower was studied. Rhein inhibited the growth of many fungi such as Trichophyton mentagrophytes (MIC 31.25 μg/ml), Trichophyton simii (MIC 125 μg/ml), Trichophyton rubrum (MIC 62.5 μg/ml) and Epidermophyton floccosum (MIC 31.25 μg/ml).
متن کاملAntibacterial and Antifungal activity from Flower Extracts of Cassia fistula L. :An Ethnomedicinal Plant
Since the advent of modern drug treatments, traditional medicine has greatly receded in occidental societies. Moreover, only a limited number of medicinal plants have received detailed scientific scrutiny; thereby prompting the World Health Organisation to recommend that this area be comprehensively investigated. The aim of the study is to assess the antimicrobial activity and to determine the ...
متن کاملBioactive Amento flavone isolated from Cassia fistula L. leaves exhibits therapeutic efficacy
Novel natural compounds endowed with sound bioactivities are currently the utmost need as leads toward drug discovery. For the first time, here, we report the presence of Amentoflavone (biflavonoid) in the leaves of Cassia fistula L. Structural characterization was carried out using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and thin-layer chr...
متن کاملHPLC Quantitative Analysis of Rhein and Antidermatophytic Activity of Cassia fistula Pod Pulp Extracts of Various Storage Conditions
Cassia fistula is well known for its laxative and antifungal properties due to anthraquinone compounds in the pods. This study quantitatively analyzed rhein in the C. fistula pod pulp decoction extracts kept under various storage conditions using HPLC. The antifungal activity of the extracts and their hydrolyzed mixture was also evaluated against dermatophytes. The contents of rhein in all stor...
متن کاملHPLC Analysis of Laxative Rhein Content in Cassia fistula Fruits of Different Provenances in Thailand
The ripe fruit pulp of Cassia fistula Linn. (Fabaceace), which is locally called Khun or Ratchaphruek in Thailand, has long been used as a traditional laxative drug due to its anthraquinone glycosides constituent. Rhein is the major anthraquinone in the fruit pulp while minor constituents are aloin and sennosides. The aims of this study were to develop and validate a high performance liquid chr...
